Mera Salamin is an incredibly powerful Epithet User. Being the first seen possessor of the Gemini Necklace, her Epithet is incredibly powerful but also hurts herself in some way. She's selfish with little regard for others, but secretly cares for a very small select few people even if she doesn't know herself. She is always seen with her bodyguard Indus Tarbela.

Backstory[]

Mera was born to a middle class family. She was in a great amount of pain her whole life and was bedridden for her entire childhood. It's not that her condition got better with age, but rather that Mera learned to live with it. This was likely due to her still unknown epithet, which she hated more so than any other character has hated their own epithet. She began researching epithets furiously to find a way to control her affliction.

On her journey she eventually passed through Desert Country where she passed out and woke up under the care of Indus. She challenged him to a duel and easily bested him. Indus then swore loyalty to her in order to get stronger and find his brother, although Mera didn't prioritize it.

She eventually ran across the first Regional Below Ceremony where she placed first, but the tournament head, the owner of the Gemini Necklace at the time, tried to kill her and copy her epithet. She defeated them, took the Gemini Necklace, and tried doing his plan herself, minus the killing at the end. She does this for another year which goes smoothly, outside of another killing by Mera. During this time she stole two epithets, "Bughouse" and "Eventual", which are likely the epithets of last year's winner and the original tournament head.

Episode 0: Regional Below Ceremony[]

Mera attempts to do the same thing she did last year: run a tournament to find a strong Epithet User and use the Gemini Necklace on them. Before the tournament she has a conversation with contestant Sylvie, where he begins to see her as his mentor.

With the accidental help of Abbot Arbuckle, the competitors suspect that something illegal is going on, and after "sneaking" past her bodyguard Mera reveals the truth about her secret plan. Guile asks if her epithet is "Bitch" and she gets sad. Sylvie feels deeply betrayed. She, Indus, and her team of co-conspirators Dan Gansley and Chuck Jones fight against the competitors, but calls things off when Charlotte nearly phases a knife into her brain. She runs, but forgets to grab the Gemini Necklace which is stolen by the Bushido Blasters, a low-quality gang that many of the other competitors were a part of.

Episode 3: Hot! Crispy! Dazzling~![]

Mera has been thrown in jail, with her epithet powers locked away by handcuffs that delete your memory of your epithet. Indus brings her just about anything she wants and thus lives in significantly more luxury than the other prisoners, outside of her condition. Eventually a group of Apple Corps Officers (Zora Salazar, Yoomtah Zing, and Indus' runaway brother Moot Tarbela) enter her cell and make a proposal: explain how the Gemini Necklace works (which they have stolen) in exchange for freedom. Mera accepts and dispels the myth that the necklace steals epithets, rather it copies and stores them. They find this information satisfactory and attempt to free her, by killing her, since she is a dangerous criminal Epithet User and the purpose of their organization Bliss Ocean is to get rid of those. Indus saves her and causes a power outage in the prison that allows her and the others to find Dan Gansley, who can unlock their handcuffs. Mera remembers her epithet and how much she despises it but keeps her feelings hidden from the party. She and Indus are eventually separated from the party and return to help finish off Officer Grapethroat and his mech, escaping with the party.

Episode 4: Horizontal Pilot Command[]

Mera, Indus, Dan Gansley, and Chuck Jones are attempting to lay low at Deathcon after their escape from prison, when they run into the news crew, specifically Sylvie whose resentment has boiled over into pure bloodlust. He is barely held back by his team from attacking Mera for her complete disregard for Sylvie, not even remembering his name. She eventually gets tired of him and swipes across his face, leaving a painful permanent scar across his face that cracks and never heals.

Episode 6A: Emergency Mirror Battleground[]

Indus is contracted by Phoenica and the police force to join her magical girl team and save the world from impending doom. In return, she and Indus are pardoned for their crimes. She is escorted by cop Percy King to the scene. She attempts to smoke a cigarette like Dylanette to look cool in front of the kids, but instead looks like she doesn't know what she's doing, and nearly dies. She is out-cooled by Rex Roughhouse.

The party grows on Mera, especially Rick Shades who goes out of his way to get her Friendly Bees. She proves effective at stripping Hilda's armor and saves Rick from flying out a window. She also sneaks off to dance with Indus before being discovered.

During the team's fight with Anakka Indus is put under a spell that makes him fight the players. Mera attempts to get Indus to come back by calling for him like a pet. This does nothing, and Indus is instead saved by Rick and Percy with a barrier-piercing friendship cannon. After she and the team defeats Anakka, Mera levels up, freeing herself from her constant physical pain that has ruined her life, making that her happiest.

During the fight against The Songstress, Indus uses his outclass right before passing out, granting Mera invincibility for the rest of the campaign. She is still ineffective against the Songstress. Later Moot shows up and defeats The Songstress instantly, along with the rest of the party.

Episode 6B: Wartime Brainwash Beacon[]

Mera is the first party member found in the Moot Realm by Rick, Molly, and Phoenica. They eventually run into Indus last, who seems to have had his memory of her wiped. He explains from the fog that their relationship is toxic and that this will be better for him, and that Mera is an uncaring and dangerous person who doesn't care about those she hurts, for example maiming a twelve-year-old Sylvie for annoying her and murdering multiple people. Mera begins to panic without Indus.

Later Mera attempts to bring back Indus' memory of her to no avail. She is reminded that Indus has his own journey of defeating his brother and returning him to the monastery, and once that's done he will have no reason to protect her. The team also runs into Sylvie whose mental state has severely deteriorated as he and his sheep are developing the shadowy aura that reflects dwindling stamina and mental health in the Moot Realm. He freaks out when seeing Mera and attacks the party, while Mera has to face apologizing for something she doesn't even fully remember or care about doing. Eventually, they catch up to Sylvie who, from the stress and repeated failures, morphs into a nightmare comprised mostly of glass, an aspect of Mera that has warped his psyche. After being defeated, Mera finally apologizes, reveals her epithet to him in private, and the two confide in each other somewhat.

When Indus and the gang get ready to fight Moot, Mera uses her outclass, which causes a target's fighting spirit to shatter and takes out a significant chunk of their health instantly but causes Mera to take constant significant damage until combat ends or she passes out. Since this is done in the Moot Realm, passing out means death, and her selfless act causes Indus' memory to return. She also turns into a magical girl.

After defeating Moot, Trixie quickly heals Mera with a banana and shares her epithet (Fragile) with Indus publicly before giving him a kiss. Everyone then gets unbooped and all the magical girls use their power to seal the Songstress.

Abilities[]

Outclass - Mera Crack

Mera's powerset is mostly shown as the ability to weaken things or make things unfixable, causing Grapethroat's mech to crumple under it's own weight and for a gentle swipe across Sylvie's face to leave a painful and permanent scar that cracks like glass. She can also create glass panes and shards.

Her outclass is Critical Fissure which removes two thirds of a single target's stamina and breaks their fighting spirit, but causes Mera to continually fracture until combat is over or she dies.

Mera has turned into a Magical Girl before but the specific powers she gains from it are unknown.

Facts[]

  • Mera's epithet was almost revealed accidentally when everyone was transported to a level made up of all character portraits, including the epithet versions of each in case it is revealed. Luckily the camera was too zoomed out to be visible by chat, and no one else paid attention.
  • Much of Mera's backstory was explained in an external tumblr post by JelloApocalypse.
  • Mera has a Fox Slug OC who is brightly multicolored, edgy, and fits the Mary Sue archetype.
